has established Astellas Pharma Australia Pty Ltd (“Astellas Australia”), in North Ryde (near Sydney), New South Wales, Australia.

In April 2011, Astellas Australia will start commercializing Vesicare® through its own sales channel and, subsequently, will aim to build business capabilities early in the country by commercializing mainly Astellas’ global in-house products.
The pharmaceutical market in Australia is the thirteenth largest worldwide and the fourth largest, next to Japan, China, and India, in the Asia/Oceania region, and is expected to continuously grow.
Upon this entry into Australia, Astellas now owns nine sales affiliates in the Asia/Oceania region where the economy is growing rapidly, in addition to sales affiliates throughout Europe and the Americas. Astellas expects to further establish and expand Astellas’ presence in the Australian market.
