Senior Vice President and Head of Oncology Business Unit
Steve Sabus is Senior Vice President and Head of Oncology Business Unit at Astellas Pharma, Inc. responsible for all commercial activities to support marketed products, Astellas’ co-promotion partners and commercial planning for early stage oncology development compounds. Sabus is a member of the Astellas US Management Committee.
Prior to this role, Sabus was Senior Vice President and Head of US Medical Specialties Business Unit, responsible for leading Astellas’ US commercial activities for marketed products in the urology, anti-infectives and hospital business units.
Sabus joined Astellas in 2007 and has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Within Astellas, Sabus has held multiple leadership positions including Vice President, Primary Care, Specialty, and Hospital sales, where he led the successful launch of Myrbetriq and Cresemba in the US. His experience spans large Primary Care Markets, Hospital, Oncology, and Rare Diseases and his management priorities focus on talent development and team performance. He most recently served as General Manager, Astellas Pharma Canada where he was responsible for evolving the commercial structure and overseeing regional launches of several key oncology products. Under his leadership, the Canadian organization was recognized with numerous best employer awards, including multiple Great Place to Work awards. In 2019, the company was also named as a Best Workplace™ in Canada for the fourth consecutive year and was ranked second overall among biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies in the country. While on assignment in Canada, Sabus served on the steering committee of Innovative Medicines Canada (IMC), where he partnered with government officials on policies impacting the life science industry.
Prior to Astellas, Sabus had a successful career at Johnson & Johnson, where he held various leadership positions for more than 16 years. Sabus holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.
Sabus represents Astellas on the board of directors for the Illinois Biotechnology Innovation Organization (iBIO), an organization dedicated to supporting the life sciences community in Illinois to drive discovery, transform lives through groundbreaking research, and grow the state’s economy.
