Senior Vice President and Head of Oncology Business Unit
Phil Tennant is Senior Vice President and Head of the Oncology Business Unit at Astellas Pharma, Inc. responsible for all commercial activities to support marketed products, Astellas’ co-promotion partners and commercial planning for early-stage oncology development compounds. Tennant is a member of the Astellas US Management Committee.
Prior to this role, Tennant was Senior Vice President and Head of the Oncology Strategic Brand Marketing (SBM) division where he oversaw the global teams supporting priority oncology brands, including marketed and pre-launch products.
Tennant joined Astellas in 2019 and has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Within Astellas, Tennant has also served as Brand General Manager for new products in the company’s oncology franchise. In this role, Tennant set a unified global brand direction for new oncology products and led the creation of marketing strategies for these products across priority markets.
Tennant joined Astellas from Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he served as Head, Hematology Marketing, US Oncology. Tennant has worked in multiple therapeutic areas across the globe, including Japan, Europe, Australia and the US. He has successfully led businesses by building commercial capabilities, delivering brand strategies, and developing organizations across geographies. Tennant has also held leadership roles at AstraZeneca and Merck. Tennant earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
