Tokyo, September 7, 2016 – Astellas Pharma Inc. (President and CEO: Yoshihiko Hatanaka, “Astellas”) today announced that it will donate three high-standard ambulances on First Aid Day (September 9) to the following local fire stations, which were selected based on recommendations by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.

Donations will be made to:

Mogami fire department North branch office(Yamagata Prefecture)

Tateyama fire department Wada branch office(Chiba Prefecture)

Tadotsu fire station(Kagawa Prefecture)

As part of its CSR activities, Astellas has donated ambulances to local fire stations since 1970 in order to support local governments in providing quality ambulance services and improving the emergency care system. Ambulances donated over 46 years reached a total of 237, including the three to be donated this year.

Due to the specialization/integration of medical services in urban areas in recent years, the travel distance and time have been increasing, which is leading to the enhanced importance of providing first aid treatment during emergency transportations. Accordingly, the need for high standard ambulances which can accommodate emergency medical technicians has been increasing. To address the need, Astellas has been donating only high standard ambulances since 2008.

Astellas will continue to fulfill its social responsibilities through a range of corporate activities with the aim of contributing to the improvement of health care services and community health.
