Japan, 1 March 2010 - Astellas Pharma Inc. (“Astellas”; Headquarters: Tokyo, President & CEO: Masafumi Nogimori) today announced that its subsidiary Astellas Pharma US, Inc. (Headquarters: Deerfield, Illinois) will make a donation of pharmaceutical products, including injectable antibiotic and antifungal medications through CitiHope International （http://www.citihope.org）who are assisting additional relief efforts after the major earthquake that struck Haiti, on 12th January.
The pharmaceutical product donation is worth nearly 400 thousand US dollars. In January Astellas Pharma Inc. made a donation of 5 million yen to the Japanese Red Cross, assisting relief efforts after the earthquake. Furthermore, Astellas Pharma US, Inc. donated a total of more than 35 thousand US dollars including matching employee donations of over 18 thousand US dollars. The Astellas USA Foundation, a separate non profit organization, also made a donation of 50 thousand US dollars to the American Red Cross. Astellas’ European subsidiary, Astellas Pharma Europe Ltd. also made a donation to the International Health Partners (IHP) to help supply donated medicines for use in Haiti.
With this donation of pharmaceutical products by Astellas Pharma US, Inc., in addition to the above relief efforts, the total amount of aid to be donated from Astellas group is approximately 50 million Japanese yen (approximately 555 thousand US dollars).
Astellas expresses its deepest sympathy for victims of the Haiti earthquake and our thoughts are with those personally affected by the tragedy.
