Tokyo, December 10, 2010 - Astellas Pharma Inc. (“Astellas”; Headquarters: Tokyo, President & CEO: Masafumi Nogimori) today announced that a new organization is to be established within Astellas Business Service Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, President: Hideaki Tanno), a group subsidiary of Astellas.
From April 2011, the new organization will begin to expand employment opportunities for differently abled people.
Working for the realization of a society in which differently abled people can enjoy independence in daily life, and serve as active members of society in roles that suit their abilities and aptitude. Astellas recognizes that one of its corporate responsibilities is to provide facilities that support differently abled people to be active.
Having continuously promoted the employment of differently abled people through the provision of work environments and the establishment of special subsidiaries, Astellas is optimistic that establishment of this new organization will further expand opportunities for employment.
In this new organization, the majority of people that Astellas plans to employ will be cognitively challenged people. In preparation, Astellas is currently constructing and equipping the facilities that will serve as the base of operations. On December 10, Astellas is holding an event at the Tsukuba Research Center (Miyukigaoka) to deepen employees’ awareness, understanding and engagement..

Number of employees: 20 employees including management staff (planned)
Business activities: Maintenance and administration of greening activities inside the Tsukuba Research Center (Miyukigaoka); collection of recyclable waste materials, recycling of disposed documents; gardening (including planting flowers, shrubs and trees); and other activities
