On April 22, 2024, the event "Open Innovation Driven by Pharmaceutical Companies and Startups in Tsukuba - A New Incubation Base for Drug Discovery" was held at Astellas’ Tsukuba Research Center. The event, co-organized by LINK-J and Astellas Pharma Inc., drew approximately 500 attendees from the government, academia, pharmaceutical companies and startups both on site and online. Notable figures in attendance included Ayano Kunimitsu, a member of the House of Representatives in Japan and Tatsuo Igarashi, the Mayor of Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan.
During the event, four pharmaceutical companies with research facilities in Tsukuba presented their open innovation strategies, followed by a panel discussion on their expectations and commitment to the life science ecosystem in this area. After the event, participants engaged in networking and exchanged their insights and opinions.
